Drive the Ford Fusion through a Virtual Reality App

On December 13, 2011, Ford announced the release of the first of its kind augmented reality game app where users can enjoy a fun and engaging way to experience the all-new 2013 Ford Fusion. This augmented reality game app allows users to drive the new Fusion through a series of “worlds” that unlock to reveal the car.

“We want to have an exciting and interactive way to build anticipation leading up to the reveal of the all-new Fusion,” said Samantha Hoyt, Fusion Marketing manager. “The app allows consumers to learn about the advanced technology and design of the car in a fun and easy-to-use way while reinforcing the transformative nature of the Fusion.”

The app operates on either the Android and iOS operating systems running on smartphones and tablets. To start the experience, a user must find and capture a Ford logo via the mobile device’s camera. The Ford logo will then appear on the screen as a button which starts the program.  The app, which operates like a video game, then allows users to drive a digitally camouflaged new Fusion on a track toward video clips that feature insights on technology and design presented by Fusion team members.

Daily video clips will unlock a new enhancement to the app, with every day of driving bringing new content, including demonstrations of key vehicle features.

As users advance through the game, three driving worlds can be unlocked leading up to the revealing of the New Fusion. Each world presents a clearer form of the Fusion and new visual environments. Original music tracks playing during the game enhance the enjoyment of playing the game. Users can access social sharing to post images to Facebook or Twitter.

Access to the full image of the car can be unlocked on the day the Fusion is revealed at the 2012 North American International Auto Show. After viewing the final video in the driving experience, an image of the car will appear on the main menu. At that point users can drive any of the four Fusions on the track and can create a custom image of the car to share via Facebook and Twitter.”

Ford worked with Moonbot Studios to develop this application.

Ford Fusion at International CES

The all-new Ford Fusion will be the “Official Car of the 2012 International CES” and will be introduced by Ford CEO Alan Mulally and Consumer Electronics Association CEO Gary Shapiro at the show Tuesday, January 10, 2012..

“The all-new Fusion represents Ford at its best in terms of personal mobility and connectivity technology,” said Hoyt. “CES is the perfect place to showcase the new Fusion and its broad range of consumer technologies.”

Plus, Ford’s cloud-connected EVOS Concept will make its North American debut at CES and Mulally will participate in the 2012 Innovation Power Panel keynote at the Las Vegas Hilton on Wednesday, January, 11 at 9 a.m.
