Spring break is great. It’s my fave. Honestly I think the kids at this age could care less, but it’s fun for mama to get a change in routine for a little while, not have to worry about packing lunches and getting everyone out the door each morning. But unless you’re taking your family on vacation to a beach or a theme park, spring break can be long and dull if your kids have “nothing to do” (well, that’s the quintessential kids’ language these days… back in my day, we were never bored! We played with tin cans and walked to school uphill both ways…).
Anyway, all rambling aside, this Spring Break we were treated to some family friendly fun at Kids Week at Foxwoods Resort and Casino. This year’s kid’s week included lots of free activities and games for kids of all ages, from arts and crafts to face painting, movies, a scavenger hunt, and much more. All in Foxwood Resort’s beautiful common and event areas (all smoke free parts of the resort too, just in case you’re wondering). They even had a whole room set aside for the kids in the Premier Ballroom.
The kids visited Foxwoods Tree House Arcade for the very first time. They had a blast playing all of the games and getting a gift at the end. There are so many gifts it was super hard to decide but everyone walked away with something.
We had the privilege of taking all the kids and a couple of their sweet school friends to see the live musical performance of Clifford the Big Red Dog. Based off the beloved children’s books, Clifford the musical is a fun, endearing show that not only entertains the kiddos, it also helps impart some great values about friendship, honesty, and responsibility. With a small cast, some playing multiple rolls, the production keeps almost an intimate small-theater/playhouse feel, even on the grand stage with lots of music, crowd interaction and lighting. With all the great puppets and costumes as well, children really enjoyed following Clifford, Emily Elizabeth, and all her friends and family on a fun filled adventure to Birdwell Island where everyone learns the meaning of friendship. Our kids had a great time and really enjoyed the show!
The production was a good length for little ones; only about an hour and a half with a nice 10 minute intermission in there as well. Little kids loved shouting out to Clifford and friends when called upon, and there was plenty of laughter and fun to go around. And of course, during the intermission there was lots of Clifford memorabilia to buy (think stuffed animals, t-shirts, and glow wands) which pretty much puts the icing on the cake for many little ones.
After watching the show we all went over to eat dinner at California Pizza Kitchen. The kids menu is pretty extensive and they even have broccoli on the chicken nuggets plate! Kids-size drinks with lids and straws are always welcome too.
Our day ended at Cake by Franck, the new pastry shop by award-winning Executive Pastry Chef Franck Iglesias where we picked up a special Clifford the Big Red Dog cupcake before heading home from our adventure.
Thank you Foxwoods Resort and Casino for inviting us to be a part of Kids Week 2016, and thank you to the cast of Clifford the Big Red Dog for a great time!
