If you live in New England like I do, you will know that we have had our fair share of snow days in the last few years. This year has been no different with Super Storm Sandy and Winter Storm Nemo. Both these storms have kept us house bound for a couple of days. With three very active girls, staying inside is not easy. I am always looking for a unique project that can keep them entertained throughout the day. Penny Portrait is certainly one of these projects.
Penny Portrait is a fun family project that helps you create a unique portrait of Abe Lincoln completely out of pennies.
Each Penny Portrait Includes:
- 18″ x 24″ Penny Portrait poster
- Genuine 1943 Steel Penny
- Assembly tips & tricks handout
- Booklet with facts and info about:
- Abraham Lincoln
- Lincoln Pennies & Coin Collecting
- Chemistry Experiments with Pennies
- Impressionist Art & Optical Illusions
- & Much, Much, More!
Using 846 pennies of different shades, this portrait comes to life. We have been very busy collecting pennies and sorting them. Awesome use of the spare coin jar.
You do not get the pennies with the Penny Portrait. You have to collect those on your own.
Here is what they suggest to finish your Lincoln Penny Portrait:
349 – Shiny new pennies
112 – Lightly used pennies
97 – Well used pennies
288 – Old as dirt pennies
You may be thinking that this picture is going to be quite heavy but according to the Penny Portrait website, the completed penny portrait weighs 2,115 grams or a little more than 4.5 pounds.
It actually has become a fun game when we are at the store and get some change back. The girls like being able to find the perfect penny for the portrait. Best of all it kept them entertained while the snow continued to fall.
This product would make a great gift for a family or even a great Easter basket surprise. For more information on how to get your own Penny Portrait visit them on the web. I love that shipping is free.
Happy Penny Finding!
