SavorCT: The Date Night You Never Knew You Needed

We got some strange side-eye looks when exhibitors at SavorCT, “a celebration of wine, food, and spirits” asked us what media outlet we were with. A Kids’ and Families blog? What on earth were we doing at Savor? Well I will tell you what I told them! What is one of the major factors involved with having kids? Being THE PARENTS! So, we went on a fabulous “date” to Savor CT and I wanted to share it with all the parents out there. What a great way to spend a day off, indulging in amazing food, wine, and spirits from some amazing celebrity chefs and talented vintners, right in our own back yard.

Sweeties Kidz Connecticut Kids

Savor’s Grand Tasting was a two-day event showcasing culinary delights from well-known celebrity and regionally acclaimed chefs including Robert Irvine

, Elizabeth Falkner, Mary Ann Esposito, and Tyler Anderson, to name a few.

Pete and Gerry's Organic Eggs

Joining the lengthy list of talented chefs were renowned vintners sharing their expertise and wines, as well as several beer breweries and spirit distillers. During the all-inclusive Grand Tasting attendees could sample creative and sumptuous cuisine, fine wines, craft beers and top-notch spirits. During each session, several chefs gave demonstration, sharing their signature recipes and culinary secrets.

Connecticut Mixologists Cocktails

Three local mixologists demonstrated their craft by creating their signature gin cocktail (with a very cool steampunk-esque design).

Plan B Burgers

There was an amazing spread of delicious foods, from celebrity talent and local gourmet bars, restaurants and gastro-pubs. Delicious sliders from plan b Burgers, fresh French bread and a charcuterie, even some AH-MAZING lobster “pops” from New Canaan’s own South End restaurant. There were also delicious, decadent truffles and treats from Foxwood Resort and Casino’s Cakes by Franck and equally sumptuous cuisine from their Vue 24 restaurant as well. One could sample and purchase cheese from, and any wine you like can be ordered and shipped to you from many of the vintners there also.

Cake Pops

Following the grand tasting on Saturday was an exclusive Savor in Style Charity Gala, hosted by Chef Robert Irvine. This memorable evening was a well-organized walk-around affair, where one enjoyed bubbles to dinner to dessert, while listening to live music and palate pleasuring cuisine and libations. During the event, an auction was held with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Robert Irvine Foundation, who’s “mission is to support individuals and organizations committed to enriching the lives of our military personnel (active, retired and veterans) and their families. The Foundation also strives to create awareness throughout the community of the sacrifices made by our military personnel and their families, and inspire community support for the men and women defending our freedom.”

So all and all as you can see, Savor CT is not an event to be missed. This was the 2nd annual Savor celebration, and I’m sure only 2nd of many to come. We will keep you posted with information about next years’ SavorCT when it becomes available.
