I got the chance to test out and review the ShaToBu Shaping tights. The literature exclaims that they help you:
…shape, tone and burn more calories during everyday activities. ShaToBu instantly gives a sleeker silhouette, but women can also see and feel a difference in their bodies with regular use over time. By incorporating resistance bands right into the garment, muscles work a little harder and more calories are burned during daily activities.
I was excited to try these out because I thought it would help with my posture and to keep my tummy in. I have gained about 10 pounds that I don’t want and working at home I am not as active as I used to be so it is hard to keep the weight off.
I also know that wearing resistance tights, shapewear – or as Betty White would say “we called it a girdle in my day” isn’t any replacement for losing the weight but sometimes, you just want a smooth look under a dress or pants.
Yep, that’s me in them there tights!
When I opened the package I did notice a difference because I could see the resistance bands on the buttocks and thigh area. I received the full tights that had enclosed feet. You can also get just a waist to knee or lower shaper with no feet.
I decided to wear them out to the casino the other night under my jeans. Okay, I am not fat but these tights made it seem like I was huge because they took me forever to get on and it reminded me of a girdle, pushing every inch of fat I do have in to squeeze them on. Once I got them on they cut into my stomach. Not wanting to give up I wore them throughout the evening.
I did wear them for 8 hours and didn’t feel any difference than any other tights I have worn before. Maybe, if the waist hadn’t been killing me I would have noticed it more, I don’t know.
They claim to “burn calories, tone muscles, and help you feel great” and maybe it is true but I could never get over the fact that they cut me off at the waist. I was so glad to get them off when I got home and I won’t be putting them on again to make sure they work. I hate having a restricted feeling like that. It’s back to the treadmill for me.
I think the concept is a great idea and maybe if I had a larger size I could give it another try. Maybe the shaper itself without the full leg and enclosed foot would work better, I don’t know. I did get a High Waist, size Medium that says it is good for weights of 115 to 145 lbs at my height which is is 5′ 8″. I am just at 145 lbs so maybe I should have gotten the large. I know sizing can make all the difference.
I think another reason they cut me off at the waist was because they were high-waisted, which means they go above the waist to just below the bra line. It seems they also sell ones that just go to up just to your waist.
If you are planning on picking up a pair to try for yourself make sure you get the correct size and you consider the waist.
Disclaimer: I received this pair of ShaToBu shaper tights to review and I gave my honest opinion. My experience may not be your own.
