Vanessa Lachey Promotes Washing in Cold Water with Tide

Yesterday Greg and I attended a SheSpeaks / Tide event in New York City and met up with a group of bloggers and the fabulous and beautiful “mom to be” Vanessa Lachey (Nick Lachey’s wife and host of ABC Wipeout).

P&G is inviting consumers to pledge to wash in cold water and enter for a chance to win a MayTag Bravos XL HE Top Load Washer and Dryer + a year’s supply of Tide Coldwater Laundry Detergent in their Take A Load Off Sweepstakes. Enter now through May 13, 2012 for a chance to win one of the 6 grand prizes.

The VIP Blogger Take A Load Off event started off by being picked up in a Toyota Hybrid car from the Green Car company. If you are ever in NYC and need a ride, don’t hop a cab, call the Green Car Company to pick you up. They will give you a call when they are close-by and also call you when you are ready to be picked up as a reminder. The drivers were super courteous and using a car service that promotes sustainability by using Hybrid cars is one more thing you can do to help the planet.

The whole day was actually about doing “one small thing to help the planet” and we often forget that each person can do their part to make a huge difference.

We all met up near at the Tide display where photographers from various media outlets were all gathered waiting for Vanessa to arrive. When she arrived the cameramen jumped into action and Vanessa posed near the Tide display.

After the photographers got their photos our group walked around the corner to Sagaponack Bar & Grill, where we were whisked up to the upper floor where a scrumptious lunch was waiting for us. Once we got our plate of food and settled in, Vanessa and Jack English Senior Analyst from Tide, talked to us about the benefits of using Tide to wash in cold water.

Did you know that if the entire U.S. washed in cold water for just one day the energy saved could power the Empire State Building for 444 years or could power the city lights of New York City for 71 years.

We use Tide HE in our household because we have a high efficiency washer and Greg told me that he does 75% of the laundry in cold water. I learned that we could actually do 100% of the laundry in cold water and still get the same great results because Tide for cold water has been specifically, and scientifically, formulated to make sure the clothes come out as clean as if you used warm or hot water. P&G, the makers of Tide and an array of other fine products, wants you to try Tide for Cold Water so that you can do one little thing to help our planet. They feel that many people get overwhelmed with the thought of making huge changes in their lifestyle but we learned that if everyone would take a “baby step” and use Tide for Cold Water that combined, we can have a huge impact on the environment.

In our household we our part by:

  • washing in cold water often (we will probably do it more now than ever)
  • recycling paper and plastics
  • using energy-efficient light bulbs
  • use toilet paper that do not include the cardboard roll inside (saves a huge amount of paper)
  • Want more ways that you can become more energy efficient? Find them on the EPA website

Vanessa Lachey let me pose with her, such an honor. She is so beautiful and so down to earth, and so friendly.

  1. Hi Wendy!

It was a pleasure meeting you yesterday! Great recap!

Can you email a full size copy of the group shot, came out way better than mine! Also, if you took one of me and Vanessa can you send it to me also? Just for my use, not on my site! 🙂

You look so wonderful and I just could not agree more with all the items you posted. My family and I have really improved in recycling and trying to turn off lights and lower thermostats. We don’t drive without having 2-3 sites planned to make the most of using the gas. I will use the ideas about laundry and start doing more with cold water. I did get a bottle from she speaks but I was a little hesitant to believe it could clean as well as hot. I have hubby who does construction, I will do my part and try to stick to cold only.
