Tonight was game night and we played a new game called Road Trip by Daddy-O Games. The game itself comes in a cool, metal case that is in the shape of a car. Inside you will find a cardboard game board that folds up small to fit inside, two stacks of cards, a multi-sided die, minute timer, 4 car game pieces, stickers for decorating your car game pieces, and instructions.
The object of the game is to get your car from one side of the US to the other side. The first car to get across the country wins!
Getting there is tricky. Each player takes a turn and picks a card from the pile. On the cards you are given a sentence to complete with nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, places, and things. That seems pretty easy but the trick comes next when you roll the dice and it lands on a letter. You must use that letter as the first letter for the words you come up. For some reason we kept landing on X and Q which makes it very hard when you get a verb. What kind of verb starts with X?
If you complete your sentence in the one minute you are given, you get the chance to pick from the smaller cards to find out what happens to your car. Do you go ahead, go backwards, lose a turn?
If you’re lucky you will get an easy letter like S, T or P. When P came up some people in the group always had to use the word POOP – kids!
Make sure you have lots of water on hand becuase you are going to get thirsty coming up with all of those nouns, verbs, adjectives, and adverbs. Kids will use their brains and parents will get the opportunity for a little bit of education. Both will have fun in the process!
