Creative Valentine’s Greeting Card Boxes to Make at Home

When I was a child, we covered shoe boxes with brown paper and pasted colorful paper doilies and construction paper hearts onto the outside of the box to make a Valentine’s Day Greeting card box. Today there are many, many ways to decorate Valentine’s greeting card boxes. You don’t even need to use a shoebox, you can decorate a gift bag as as shown below. A Valentine’s Card mailbox craft is perfect for kids to complete before they share candy and cards on Valentine’s Day.

Rustoleum Makes Wood or Metal Furniture Look New

I decided to paint the deck furniture since it was starting to look dull and the paint was chipping. I have been lax and didn’t paint it last year and it shows. With the outdoor wood deck furniture I have always used Rust-oleum paint and this is why.

Rust-oleum Painter’s touch paint adds an extra layer of protection to your wood furniture. Of course, you can also use it on any wood, metal, plaster, masonry or unglazed ceramic surface. It is latex paint so it cleans up with soap and water.

If you ever bought a chaise lounge or rocker and put it outside for any length of time you realize that after awhile it turns dark and gets green mold on it. Here in Connecticut we have some harsh winters sometimes and if the furniture it left outside and not covered you might as well just buy new deck furniture each year. We don’t have a garage, only a storage shed, so we usually keep the deck furniture on the deck over the winter and cover it with tarps that are tied down. This helps somewhat but just the elements of sun, rain, and cold make the furniture age and look bad.

Rust-oleum paint has a high gloss finish. It is good quality, thick paint. The brushes are easily cleaned with soap and water.

I like my deck furniture to be fire red (actually this is called Colonial Red) because it makes it pop on the brown deck. We actually painted the ENTIRE deck this year with Rust-oleum – leather brown color but we used the oil based Rust-oleum paint instead. It took almost 3 gallons to finish it but now it’s good for another year or so.

About how old do you think this chaise lounge is? Two years, 4 years? Nope, it’s 10 years old and still looks great. It doesn’t look as new as the day I bought it but it is in terrific shape and that is all because I use Rustoleum paint on it. I did find some damage to the wood in several places this year and it is because I didn’t paint it last year.

Yes, it does take time to paint it, most likely two separate days, but isn’t it worth it when you can buy a lounger for about $150 and have it last 10 years? I think this lounge will last another 5 years if I keep painting it.

Here’s the before and after shots. It’s like I have a deck of new furniture now. We also have a double chair that has an attached table in the middle and I painted that as well. It looks great too!

You can also get the regular Rustoleum paint and it will do a great job of making old furniture look new again. Take a look at our newest project, painting a old metal chair with Rustoleum.

Rust-oleum Paint Makes Wood or Metal Furniture Look New

This chair was all rusted and left out in the rain for years but a coat of Rusoleum paint, brick red (Gloss Sunrise Red is what this one is called) of course for our taste, made it look brand new. We love the retro look of this chair and it goes well on our front porch with the rest of our “Brick red” Rustoleum furniture. We also painted the rocker bench this year too. It was originally stained but overtime the weather has made it look worn too so it needed some fresh paint to give it a new look.

Disclosure: I purchase Rust-oleum with my own money and painted the lounge and no one paid me and this is my own personal story.
