Move Over Gucci, It’s a Poochie Purse

Quvenzhané Wallis is in love with the Poochie Purse and now I see why – from it’s furry mane to the sequined coat it wears, this pooch is a adorable. Quvenzhane, the young star of Beasts of the Southern Wild, has been seen throughout the awards season sporting a variety of these puppy purses and recently on the Oscars red carpet. That was the first time I spotted these furry felines and I knew I had to tell you about them.

Each purse measures 12″ long x 10″ high and comes with a long, removable handle and doggie collar. They come in all colors, usually with a sequined body and coordinating legs, paws, and face. Their heads sport a luzz

Kickboard Mini Scooters are Perfect for Tiny Tykes

Have you been looking for a new scooter? Take a look at Kickboard scooters. We received one to test out and were impressed, and so was our little product tester, Annie. Annie came over with her mom Emily, and within a minute we had the Scooter put together – it comes in two pieces – and she was already decorating it with the stickers that come with it.

Since Annie is 3 and a little timid when it comes to trying new things, mom Emily showed her all about the scooter and how the wheels turn.

Annie was ready to try out the Kickboard mini scooter and put on her helmet for safety. Kickboard includes a safety chart that you can read to your kids to help them understand what they need to do to be safe while riding their scooter.

Annie told us she liked the handlebar because of the bright orange rubber grips.

One neat feature we saw when we were trying it out with Annie was that the wheels angle and turn when you move the handlebar. This makes maneuvering those tight corners much easier because the scooter goes with your body.

Having two wheels in front really helps young children learn how to ride while keeping them safe. The Kickboard scooter also has a brake on the back wheel that they can push down with their foot to stop themselves.

We went in our basement and did a test ride. We happened to have a Radio Flyer “My First Scooter” on hand so Annie could figure out which one she liked best. The Radio Flyer scooter is cheaper in price – around $59.99 (the Kickboard is $84.99) – so it’s a little hard to really compare but we did notice a few differences that I want to point out. Since the Radio Flyer “My First Scooter” is designed for this age group, it was a pretty good one to compare though.

The Radio Flyer scooter is really more of a toy than a true scooter. While it has a cute look, the functionality isn’t that great. The front wheels don’t turn on their own and it doesn’t have a brake in the back.

We also noticed that quality difference too. The Kickboard Mini Scooter is definitely a true scooter, like the “big boys” ride. It is made with heavy-duty plastic, rubber, and metal, while the Radio Flyer is pretty much all “Rubbermaid-type” plastic.

If you’re looking for a true scooter that will last for awhile you will definitely want to go with the Kickboard scooter.

We asked Annie which one she liked and she kept going back to the Kickboard Mini Scooter. Who can argue with a 3 year old?

Annie was a little apprehensive since she had never been on a scooter but after watching Mom demonstrate she was a happy camper and loved the Kickboard scooter. Annie is going to be a pro in no time and since the Kickboard mini scooter is designed for kids ages 3 to 5, it will last her for several years.

Dr Seuss The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins Reading App

We are a family of readers. Always have been, always will be. And like many of you we have just recently made the venture into the world of e-readers, tablets and iPods to get our daily dose of stories.

Admittedly, the kids are a bit more into this ‘new age’ of reading more than I, but at the same time, anything that excites them about reading is a BONUS to me.

Record Your Child Reading a Dr. Seuss Classic

We recently used an iPod to try out an app from Oceanhouse Media to read the classic Dr. Seuss story: The 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins. I had never read this story to my children and only vaguely remember it from my own childhood, but I do know as a family we enjoy anything Dr. Seuss serves up. The attention grabbing red hat amidst the sea of black and white illustrations and non-rhyming text may be a new part of Seuss your kids have not before discovered.

Using This Learning App

This app is not only for reading, but it helps your new reader learn as well. Oceanhouse takes this classic book and turns it into an interactive event. The action of reading is made more fun and interactive in a few ways. Music and sound effects enhance the reading.

In addition to reading the story, you can have the story read to you. The words are highlighted as the voice tells the story. My two girls, ages 8 and 11, loved listening to the character voices as the story carried on.

You have the option to tap on the illustrations of the book to have the words dance across the page. This is a great tool to enhance vocabulary and increase site word understanding.

My girls thought the best option was the voice recording option. We took turns reading the story aloud and then playing it back. This really helps with fluency and intonation. Everyone gets a kick hearing themselves and trying out character voices. The app will store the vocal interpretation of the text from several people and then you can play it back.

The Story Details

Bartholomew Cubbins in case you do not remember is the story of a boy who has an issue with hats that keep sprouting atop his head and the King who is not at all happy with this as all hats are to be removed when addressing the king. A cast of characters joins in trying to remove the hats, and Bartholomew never loses his head……or his hats!

The story does have a few dark spots including an executioner and an ill-behaved child, however nothing truly frightening happens.

Kidaroo Crew Sippy Cup and Bottle Grab Review

The holidays were a lot of fun. Watching my son spend time with his cousins was a blast! But with all those kids it was hard to remember what belongs to which child.
